Our History

Senior Helpers of Scottsdale was proud to join the exceptional team of over 300 other Senior Helpers owners in 2007. Shaun Phelan was inspired to start providing quality care to the senior population after he witnessed the challenges his family experienced while trying to care for his grandfather. He realized the importance of providing personalized care to the senior population, so that your loved one feels like they are being cared for by someone they can connect with and never a stranger.

Shaun’s wife Tiffany had had similar experiences when her grandmother became the primary caregiver for her grandfather who had Hungtington’s Disease. Her grandmother struggled to find caregivers who were familiar with this rare disease or any neurodegenerative diseases. This posed many challenges for Tiffany and her family, but it was what inspired her to join Senior Helpers. This fueled her passion to provide high quality, skilled care in the Scottsdale area.

Like every other owner in the Senior Helpers family, we are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community. We believe that our most important calling is to ensure seniors are safe in that we can preserve their dignity and improve their quality of life through our work.

Due to our on-going dedication to compassionate senior care we have been lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in the Scottsdale area over the years. At Senior Helpers we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with the guidance of our Senior Helpers LIFE Profile^TM and a highly trained Senior Helpers consultant. This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one using a 5-point data-driven assessment tool, and all your options for determining the best plan of care for your entire family.

In the initial assessment we will cover:

Meet the Scottsdale Team

Shaun Phelan

President

Shaun is the President and founder of Senior Helpers Scottsdale. He opened the Scottsdale office in 2007. Shaun was drawn to the idea of opening a senior care business after helping his mother care for his ailing grandfather. He watched as his mother lovingly provided care through the last days of his grandfather’s life and saw the burden that was placed on her. When he learned about in-home care services, he immediately knew that this was his opportunity to make a difference.

Tiffany Phelan

Director of Operations

Tiffany oversees all of the care management in the Scottsdale Senior Helpers office. In partnership with her husband Shaun, they strive to provide compassionate care to seniors and families in the Scottsdale area. She has spent 16 years in the home care industry and has a passion for supporting families during the last years of their loved one’s lives. Helping others find the best in-home care possible is the most rewarding thing she has ever done, other than raising her three daughters. When she is not working, you can find her with her daughters at a swim meet, riding their bikes, or having a family dinner with Tiffany’s mother Rachel, who is also a client of Senior Helpers.

Karen Buckles

Director of Client Services

Karen has been the Director of Client Services for Senior Helpers Scottsdale for the past 12 years. Prior to Senior Helpers, Karen had a 35 year career in the medical field. She has a passion for matching the right caregiver to the right client and understands that making a good personality match is the key to success when working with seniors. Karen is also a wife of 52 years to her dear husband, Jack, and proud grandmother of 3 grandchildren. She is also an active member of the Arizona Lions and loves giving back to her community.

Jorge Pena

Office Manager

Jorge is the Office Manager here at Senior Helpers Scottsdale. He hires and trains our care staff and takes great pride in building our care team through his careful and detailed process of caregiver selection. Jorge is also a very engaged father of 3 active boys and will spend his time off camping, hiking, cycling, and being involved with his sons’ Boy Scouts troops.

Rebecca Hatley

Care Services Manager and Director of VA Services

Rebecca is our Care Services Manager and Director of VA services. Her background is in social work and she has spent her career working with the underinsured. She works closely with the Phoenix VA to establish benefits and determine care needs for local veterans. She helps meet those needs using our proprietary LIFE Profile and LIFE Care Plan. When not at Senior Helpers, Rebecca enjoys baking and is actively involved in her church.

Celina Shoop

Care Services Manager

Celina came to Senior Helpers Scottsdale with over 20 years of experience in the behavioral health field. She brings with her extensive skills in working with individuals from many backgrounds as well as the understanding of how to guide families during times of distress. On her off time, Celina is an avid runner and cycler and enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog, Chleo.

Maui Phelan

Director of Happiness

Maui is a 2 year old Standard Poodle who loves everyone in his Senior Helpers family. When he's not hard at work putting smiles on the faces of our staff, clients, and caregivers he enjoys long walks, chewing on his favorite toys, and barking at local birds.
