Meet the New Kensington Office

More than 90% of seniors want to age in their own home with dignity but getting the right type of care can seem daunting. At Senior Helpers New Kensington we believe getting the best care for your loved ones should not be complicated. Tim Beckes opened the Senior Helpers New Kensington office in 2018 because of his passion for helping others and his interest in the growing need for in-home care services. Tim is committed to delivering the best possible in-home care to seniors in New Kensington and the surrounding communities. We take in-home care seriously and make it a priority to provide the highest level of client service possible.

Our History

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and affordable in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers New Kensington was proud to join the system in 2018. Like every other owner, we too are fully committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.

Several years ago our owner, Tim Beckes, experienced two significant health events in his family.  His father-in-law suffered from a cerebral aneurysm and his vibrant grandmother began the gradual decline associated with dementia. Tim was thrust into the world of caregiving. Knowing the struggles caregivers experience first hand, he knew he wanted to help both the patient and caregivers. When he decided to enter the industry there were many options to choose from. He chose Senior Helpers because of their emphasis on dementia and the Senior Gems program. Caring for people with cognitive issues requires unique skills and experience. Senior Gems and the associated training helps caregivers empathize with the patient and have a better understanding of how they see the world. This understanding gives caregivers the tools and patience to deal with many difficult situations.

Our team has grown quickly and is constantly expanding. We have been lucky to serve many seniors in our community, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant. This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one and, your options. Together we can discuss their needs, review our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Meet the New Kensington Team

Tim Beckes

Tim Beckes

Owner

This office is locally owned by Tim Beckes, a resident of the AK Valley for over 25 years. He opened the business after being actively involved with the care of family members who suffered life changing medical events including dementia, heart attacks, falls, and brain aneurysms.  He saw the strain and toll these new situations put on the family. Tim wanted to provide alternatives and help to people going through similar situations. He saw the need to relieve stress on family members who were thrust into the role of caregiver and helping the ill family member maintain dignity and respect.

His background includes 15 years in the medical equipment industry helping people solve new, everyday issues that arose from conditions including strokes, diabetes, skin wounds, Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, hip and knee replacements and other medical conditions.

Tim is active in the local community coaching youth soccer, as an assistant soccer coach for the Valley Girls High School team, and as a leader in The United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington.  He received a BA from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.

Amber Macura

Amber Macura

R.N.

Amber Macura has been a resident of New Kensington all of her life and is a graduate of Valley High School.  Amber has been married for 25 years and raised her 3 children, ages 25,22, and 19 in the same community.  She enjoys time with family and friends.  As a teenager Amber cared for her aligning grandmother.  She did all the things that Senior Helpers’ caregivers do for their clients.  She helped with bathing, made sure her grandmother had proper nutrition, and reminded her to take her medications. After that experience, she knew she wanted to work in a field where she could care for people who needed her, so she started out in the medical field as a Medical Assistant.  She worked both in the hospital and office settings for 10+ years caring for patients of all ages. She went on and earned her nursing degree at Shadyside School of Nursing back in 2006 and started her nursing career at Shadyside Hospital as an ICU nurse.  She transferred to inpatient hemodialysis where she was able to care for an array of patients who were frequently readmitted with mostly preventable occurrences.  After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2013, Amber had to leave her position at the hospital.  Having Multiple Sclerosis helps Amber understand some of the challenge’s seniors face with their mobility, so she joined Senior Helpers.  She is now in a position to ensure seniors are receiving the proper care and assistance need to keep them in their own homes as long as possible.
